creating spaces - garden fairies 1

The garden fairies have arrived at our home, have they been visiting you as well?
It seems many people have fairy gardens on their minds these days.  Magic Onions is holding a fairy garden contest and Pinterest is full of photos of miniature landscapes, I have started a fairy garden board myself.

I knew that our next "theme" had to be fairy gardens as it felt like such a natural continuation from the Beatrix Potter Easter theme.  With the gardening season really starting to finally feel like it's here, I knew it would be perfect.

I started with our branch.  It's been bare throughout the winter so it was so refreshing to add greenery to it!  The above fairy was inspired from this book.

Our flower petal fairies have been carefully hung, as well as our needlefelted ladybug, toadstools and carved wood hummingbirds.

I'm sure we'll find even more garden fairy creations to add soon.

I continued the greenery along the string of twinkle lights over the window and added these big beautifully detailed flowers and grapevine balls over the bulbs.  All these bits and pieces I found at our local Thrift Store but I believe the flowers originally came from Chintz and Co.  The butterfly window clings I found at the Dollar Store surprisingly, as they are quite realistically detailed.

The "nature table" (first photo and below photos) is always my favourite spot to decorate and yet often causes the worst creative blocks!  I prefer to have an idea of how I'm going to decorate it but this time I just started with the miniature silk ferns and let it flow.  I'm happy with the results as it resembles our own forests with the wood "logs", rocks, ferns, trees, mushrooms and wildlife.  I also added a few garden essentials and a sprinkle of Waldorf magic! ;o)

Gramma made A the wall quilt and a duvet cover from Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairy fabric.  Her books have long been a favourite in our house with her beautiful illustrations!

We thought it would also be fun to try making our first miniature fairy garden so check back to see how we're coming along!  We have made many fairy houses outside in the garden or forest using only found natural materials but this will be our first one made in a container for our garden.  I'm still gathering "supplies" so I hope to start this weekend.

If you have any inspiration for us, please send us a note, I'd love to see your fairy garden creations!

Have a great day!
xoxo

  1. How spring-y! I've not really updated our since Easter. This is inspiring. :) I' think we'll make a fairy garden for Donni's contest, too. We haven't before but I'm really looking forward to it.

  2. Hi Julie!
Yes Donni's posts have been so inspiring to us as well!
I'm also really excited that it connects us with families that think about things the same way as we do. Only having a few friends that even know about Waldorf or natural ways of living, it's so nice to join in with others that are like us!
    Like you guys! ;o)

  3. I love all of your Spring creations. So beautiful. We haven't updated yet either. And now it's getting hot here, so our nature table may be looking more like summer. Can't wait to see what you have in mind for your fairy garden. We're working on ours today! It will be a work in progress.

    1. Hi Becca
Ah heat! I could do with some of that right now! We were getting so excited the other day when we hit a high of 15*C (about 59*F)!
I'm hoping cool temperatures and rain won't discourage us from starting the fairy garden this weekend. Can't wait to see yours! :o)

    1. Hi Laura,
Thanks for your kind comment! I did make the needle felted root child, it was inspired by Sibylle Olfers's root children. There are dozens of different ideas all over the web.
