swap with Stephanie

 

In June I was lucky enough to be paired up with sweet Stephanie over at Travelling Tangles and I have to say these tiles were SOOOO fun to finish!

The theme for June was Flowers and I just love how the tiles she sent me turned out!  So excited in fact, that the watercolour pencil on the first one hasn't even dried yet!

Once again I wish the colour was more accurate, any tips on how to set up for better lighting or get my phone to take truer coloured photos?

Thanks Stephanie, your swaps are always a lot of fun, so glad that I finally got the nerve to join! lol

weekly tangle challenges #175 and #176

Two weeks of tangle challenges now complete!  Phew!

First:  #175 with guest challenger Stephanie.

 We started with the tangle Naida and I have added
 Heart Strings, Y-Ful Power and Gotcha
(sorry the shading doesn't show up very well in the photo)

Photography is very difficult at the moment due to smoke in our air from wildfires burning in the interior of BC.  They say it is the worst year for fires in 6 decades and most were caused by humans being careless.

Even though the fires are 100's of kms away,
the wind  has brought the coast a muggy grey haze and
red/orange sunrises and sunsets that create a very eerie glow. :o(

Second:  challenge #176 with guest challenger Trudi.

We started with a variation of the tangle Tropicana and I have added Fescu and a simplified variation of Frond.
The second photo shows all of the supplies that were used, surprising isn't it?!

Welcome guest blogger

Trudi Taylor . . .

I was so pleased when Joey asked me
to guest host this challenge so she could have a summer break.

My mind started going immediately and the next day
this is what I came up with. 

I've been working a lot trying to get depth and

shadowing in to my Tangles and I thought

maybe some of you would enjoy doing that too.

(I KNOW some of you already do a great job

and would love to see what you do with this.)

First I have a variation of Tropicana for you to start with:



Draw it in pencil so you can decide

which ones you want to go over and under,

also at this stage
is when I put in the next layer of Tangles down in pencil

to have some of those going over and under as well.

I hope you enjoy this challenge

and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

kids art week with Carla Sonheim: day 3 and 4

I have two art projects from Carla Sonheim's Kids Art Week

Yesterday's class was a collage

Chagall Merry-Go-Round. 

I have to say that all of the week's lessons have pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Paper is one of my favourite materials

to work with but I don't do collage.

This was one of the reasons I wanted to take these lessons!

I followed Carla's steps using the different materials (crayon, paper, glue, felt pens) and because we were creating an interpretation of Chagall's work there were no expectations nor did it have to look perfect or even make sense!?!

(oh ya, totally out of my comfort zone!!)

PS. The horse shape is a nod to my husband who claims the only thing that he can draw is this "smiley horse"! ;o)

Today's lesson was even more out of my comfort zone:

Picasso Cats!

 I have to admit that I don't really 'get' Picasso's work

but this was a fun exercise!

Again we followed steps

(draw a small eye, rotate paper a quarter turn, draw a large eye, rotate, etc).

When it came time to paint I had no idea what to do but it miraculously came together!

I think he looks like he was hit by a car and went splat on the windshield,

but that's ok!
