zentangle weekly challenge #7

Hello and welcome to the Zentangle® weekly challenge!
Here's how it works:
Every Monday I:
- choose a technique or style of drawing
- include some examples and guidelines for the challenge.
Throughout the week:
- when you have completed your artwork, return to this post to Link Up a photo of your artwork.

Please only share photos, posts or Pins that you have done yourself AND match the week's challenge.  Use the comment section to tell us about your drawing or to ask questions.  Offering support to your fellow artists is cool too!
Note:  I find that drawing Zentangles awakens my creativity which often leads to other drawing techniques and styles.  For more info about the art of Zentangle® click here.  For my weekly challenges I will be combining several drawing techniques in these challenges so that each challenge will be fresh, stimulating and rewarding.

Happy Monday to you!
I'm challenging you today by asking you to do the
opposite
of what most tanglers do with their strings.

Strings are used as guidelines in Zentangle artwork
and most often disappear behind the patterns,
however, today I want you to highlight them instead!

While the examples below haven't used official Zentangle strings,
I hope that they help get my idea across...

I'm looking forward to seeing your interpretation of this challenge.
It may feel as though you are going against what feels normal
but isn't that what challenging your drawing skills is about?!

Go with it and have fun!

  1. Hi, Joey,
Just want to let you know that even tho I can't post what I draw(don't have a camera), I am enjoying your weekly challenges. I really do wish that more folks could/would post, tho, as I love to see what others are drawing. Lots of inspiration and new patterns from looking around like that.

    1. Thanks for your comment Joyce and for letting me know that you are participating without posting. I share your wish that more of my visitors would share their artwork. From the number of visitors that come from zentangle related sites there are many of you that are not linking up. Come on everyone, we're a friendly bunch, please share your artwork!

    2. For a beginner you have chosen some tricky tangles in your piece. Well done and so happy to see you participating!

  4. I have used String 070 from TanglePatterns.com and the tangles Chillon and Featherfall. As you can probably tell I am practicing how to shade so this piece is quite heavily shaded. I kept the tangles to a minimum so that it didn't appear too dark.

I'm really enjoying your challenges! :o)

I didn't share last week as I only got half way through my bookmark last week... i.e. I have a bookmark shaped drawing on a larger piece of paper... haven't yet worked out how to turn it into a bookmark!

    1. Beewatch,
Your piece is lovely and I have a couple of questions for you.
      1) Are you using sepia Micron pens?
      2) What brand of white pen are you using?
I love the look of brown tones and white. The possibilities are endless with shading and highlighting!
      Thank you!

  7. Sal,
I wanted to let you know that your link doesn't seem to work when I clicked on the thumbnail. If you get a chance to try it again I can delete the first one from my end.

  8. Coroona,
Whoa! You have blown me away with this piece! I LOVE how the string floats above the pattern. You took this challenge to a level I could only dream of achieving.
    Brilliant!
