zentangle weekly challenge #6

Hello and welcome to the Zentangle® weekly challenge!
Here's how it works:
Every Monday I:
- choose a technique or style of drawing
- include some examples and guidelines for the challenge.
Throughout the week:
- when you have completed your artwork, return to this post to Link Up a photo of your artwork.
Please only share photos, posts or Pins that you have done yourself AND match the week's challenge.  Use the comment section to tell us about your drawing or to ask questions.  Offering support to your fellow artists is cool too!
Note:  I find that drawing Zentangles awakens my creativity which often leads to other drawing techniques and styles.  For more info about the art of Zentangle® click here.  For my weekly challenges I will be combining several drawing techniques in these challenges so that each challenge will be fresh, stimulating and rewarding.

Wow!  Week #6 already?  Time does fly when you are having fun!
This week's challenge combines beauty with functionality.
Next to being creative, my second love would have to be reading
so I thought this week we would try drawing our zentangles on a bookmark.

Here are a few to inspire you:

The guidelines are up to you as long as the finished piece can be used as a bookmark.  Perhaps try including inspirational words, poetry, or your name in your drawing?
The examples I have shown all happen to be in colour
but black and white is beautiful too!

When your artwork is complete, take a photo and come back to Link Up your
Bookmark Zentangle to the Gallery below.
(contact me if you have any questions.)

I love any opportunity to make a boring, everyday item more beautiful.
I hope you enjoy this challenge too!
 Creatively yours,
~ joey ~

  2. I love that! And I know your friend will enjoy her personalized gift too.
Your thumbnail popped up just at the perfect moment for me as well, a pattern you used in your bookmark finishes off the piece that I'm currently working on nicely. Thank you!

  3. I managed to get two bookmarks done in just a couple of days (the benefits of hosting the challenge is knowing what the next one will be ha ha!) and I was pleased with them both. I explained the tangles I used in this post. http://madebyjoey.blogspot.ca/2014/04/bookmark-zentangle-challenge-6.html

  4. Hope I get time to have a go at this challenge. I've never done a bookmark before. Many of them would come in very handy indeed.

    1. Your bookmarks are beautiful Kylie, I think they will fly off the stall at your Mother's Day market! I find them a bit addictive as well!

  5. Colette,
The glittery paper that you used saves from having to colour it in. It's certainly thinking outside of the regular Zentangle box. Great job!

  6. Hi Joey,

Hope you had a great week! This challenge was fun. I stuck a daisy on top of my bookmark, so it will hang outside the book and be easy to find the page.

    Thank you!

    1. I love your bookmark! The flower adds whimsy and I love the black and yellow combination. You have inspired me and given me something new to try. Thanks for participating Jacque!

  7. I love how your bookmark turned out and the patterns that you have used together. And I agree that it's hard to pick from the vast collection of tangles! I learn so much from seeing how others combine patterns. The colours you chose really brought the bookmark to life, very nice. I'm going to have to read that book too, thanks for inspiring me!

  8. Sal,
After studying your challenge piece this week I noticed an effect that intrigues me. It appears that there are water droplets on your drawing which are reflecting the image in the droplet. Could you please tell us more about this technique?

I really enjoy reading your thoughts and ideas about the posts that I write here. It's nice to just say hi too!
