Christmas re-crafting

We've been doing some more Christmas crafting to pass the time during a couple of stubborn viruses.

We had bought some pistachios recently so we were well stocked with empty shells!

We used some paper mache easter eggs that I had saved to be "repurposed" (read: they were a previous craft disaster and needed to be covered!), a bowl of shells (which I learned you don't need anywhere near this amount!) and a glue gun.  My kids are 7 and 10 so they are fine to use a glue gun but an adult would need to be in charge of glue with younger children.

The shells are layered and glued around the egg to create a pattern of sorts.  Start at the pointy end and try each shell before adding glue, it's similar to doing a puzzle to find the best fit.

We found some ribbon and bows that were also set aside to be reused and glued them to the rounded end to hang the ornaments.

I also tried two cross stitch patterns that I fell in love with on Pinterest.  They are both on my board hereI changed a couple of stitches (once on purpose, once when I miscounted!) but I think they turned out so sweet.  And an added bonus was I found all of the supplies at our local thrift store!  I can't decide whether to hang them on the tree or on the wall?

Have you been crafting lately?

  11. Hi,

This is a fantastic idea! I'm currently working on a post to show creative upcycling with pistachio shells. Would it be alright to use the third image of this post, the lone ornament? Of course I'd include your link and blog name in the description. Please let me know :]
